Eksingedalen

The valley of Eksingedalen is especially delightful because of the meandering river which flows gracefully through its step-like formations which alternate between flat glacial planes where inhabitants farm the fertile, peaceful land and narrow sections where tumbling waterfalls reverberate off the steep mountainsides. The Eksingedalen portion of the Ribbon begins at Eidsland on the Eidsfjord and winds fifty kilometers up to Gullbrå.

Impressive waterfalls are numerous, alpine lakes magically appear along the way and travelers will also find many venues for challenging hikes as well as stimulating skiing trails appropriate for skiers of all levels. Many farms have marked trails leading up the mountainside to their støl, or summer grazing pastures.

Eksingedalen is part of National Bicycle Trail # 4 and one of the gateways to the Stølsheimen Mountains and The Norwegian Trekking Association’s (DNT) network of trails and cabins. Several gravel roads built during the period of hydro-electric construction lead off the main road and up to the high mountain plateau above Eksingedalen, providing easy access to this special terrain.

This is a wonderful valley that offers a wide variety of outdoor activities!
